“The World of the Celts" is an exhibition organized in Stuttgart by the Baden-Württemberg State Museum of Archaeology and the Württemberg State Museum.
The show is organised in two topical blocks, Centres of Power and Treasures of Art which respectively depict the role of the Celtic civilization from an historical and from an artistic point of view.
Besides the undeniable richness of the exhibition, an important factor of attraction for the visitors is the peculiar interaction between objects and virtual representation.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) of Stuttgart, “The World of the Celts” allows visitors to experience and interact with objects in a innovative way.
For instance, due to the combination of high-resolution pictures and gesture-based interaction, users can interact with ancient objects showed in the exhibition which are too fragile to be directly touched.
A fabric shred dated more than 2000 years would be destroyed if made available interaction to the visitors: to overcome this critical issue and give at the same time a more comprehensive look and feel to the people, HdM designed a realistic model which can be manipulated via a touch surface placed just next to the showcase hosting the original shred.
This, in combination with a real time lighting and rendering technology which is at the basis of the digital effects of almost every recent Hollywood movie, allows an authentic and immersive experience for visitors.
Another object displayed in the Stuttgart exhibition was as well digitized and embedded in the multisensory experience pictured above: a Celtic sword with finely engraved patterns.
The exhibition will be accessible to the public until 17th February 2013.
